Your Budget Shopping Guide

Hello fellow shoppers, my name is Kara Lyons and you've arrived at my shopping blog. Make no mistake, I absolutely love to shop and when I'm not working I'm in the city shopping at my favorite stores. Since I shop often, I've learned how to spot the best bargains and I also know the best times to buy certain items. I hardly ever pay full price for anything I buy and I always take advantage of in store coupons and promotions. My love of shopping began when I was little and I would tag along behind my mom while she shopped. When I got old enough to shop for myself, I began to discover ways to get more for my money. If you also enjoy shopping, but you're on a budget, read my blog to learn how you can get the things you want and need without breaking the bank.

Tips For Keeping Mounted Police Officers Safe

by Rebecca Simmons

If your police department has mounted police officers, you probably understand that officers who ride on horseback while working are able to contribute to your police department in ways that other officers can't. Of course, they also face challenges that other officers don't usually face, too. For example, these are some of the things that can be done within your police department to help focus on the safety of mounted officers.

Make Sure Horses Are Properly Trained

Horses that are ridden by police officers have to be exposed to things that average horses just aren't exposed to. Many horses are scared of big crowds and loud noises, for example. With proper training and exposure, horses can become accustomed to these things and can work well in these environments. It's just important to make sure that all of the horses that your police department uses are well-trained and accustomed to being in different environments that your average horse might find very frightening.

Ensure Officers Wear Safety Gear

Mounted officers should always wear appropriate safety gear when they're on horseback. Along with wearing boots that are safe and comfortable for riding, they should wear reflective clothing or vests to make sure that they're easily seen, particularly when they're patrolling at night. They should also wear police helmets to protect them in case they fall off of their horses.

Use Proper Tack That's in Good Condition

Don't just pass horse tack from one officer and horse to another. Leather tack can become worn out and can break and fail when officers are riding. This is obviously incredibly dangerous, such as if a girth fails and causes the saddle to slide while an officer is riding. Making sure that tack is of a high quality, that it's kept clean and in good condition, and that it fits both horse and rider well is important for the safety of the officers and horses, as well as for their comfort.

Have Officers Work in Pairs or Groups

It's not a secret to those who are involved in law enforcement that officers are safer when they work in pairs or groups rather than working alone. This becomes particularly important for those who ride horses while they're on the job. Sending out mounted police officers in pairs or larger groups will help ensure that if a rider falls or is otherwise put in a dangerous situation, there is someone there to render aid.
