Your Budget Shopping Guide

Hello fellow shoppers, my name is Kara Lyons and you've arrived at my shopping blog. Make no mistake, I absolutely love to shop and when I'm not working I'm in the city shopping at my favorite stores. Since I shop often, I've learned how to spot the best bargains and I also know the best times to buy certain items. I hardly ever pay full price for anything I buy and I always take advantage of in store coupons and promotions. My love of shopping began when I was little and I would tag along behind my mom while she shopped. When I got old enough to shop for myself, I began to discover ways to get more for my money. If you also enjoy shopping, but you're on a budget, read my blog to learn how you can get the things you want and need without breaking the bank.

Dreaming of Sleep: Tips for Finding the Best Mattress for You

by Rebecca Simmons

Sleep can be hard to get even in ideal situations, much less with an old mattress that just doesn't work anymore. So if you're going out shopping trying to find the best mattress for you, then here's what you need to know.

Know Your Positions

Everyone has one or two positions they feel most comfortable in, generally categorized as the position in which you choose to fall asleep and the position you wake up in. Finding a mattress that supports both is crucial; you want to be able to get to sleep and stay asleep for the optimal night's rest, after all.

For example, if you fall asleep on your stomach but wake up on your side, your best bet is probably a hybrid (latex and memory foam) mattress, where the latex gives you the spring and responsiveness that most stomach sleepers crave, while the foam curves to your joints when you're on your side, giving you support and pressure relief.

Plan Years Ahead

Your average mattress will last somewhere around 8–10 years, so it's important to consider whether your mattress will still serve you as well in 5 years as it will tomorrow. Is your living location going to change drastically enough to render your mattress obsolete or unusable? Is an upgrade or downgrade in size going to cause a problem with space or romantic partners? Are your sleeping habits or your body rapidly changing?

If your future is in flux, it's a good idea to get a mattress that's not specifically made for one situation or another and instead look at bedding accessories (see below) to add a personal touch. If you know what your situation will be for the majority of your new mattress's life (for example, if you're getting married soon and will need a larger bed), it's a good idea to buy for that situation rather than the temporary one you might be in now.

Remember Your Accessories

Are you in love with everything about a mattress but wish it were just a hair softer? Not loving the fabric the mattress is made of? Finding your dream mattress a little chilly to sleep on? None of these have to be deal-breakers if you really love everything else about that new mattress, because there are mattress accessories to choose from.

Mattress toppers come in all sorts of different varieties, from heated toppers for cold climates to waterproof toppers for those with leaky bladders or heavy periods to toppers made of soft materials like memory foam to help your otherwise-perfect mattress conform to your body just a little better. It can be heartbreaking to give up a mattress for a small concern, so before you decide to buy or leave, make sure to ask about mattress toppers and accessories that could tip the scales in your favor.
